Shot the first dual slalom race of the summer season last night at the new Frisco Bike Park. This is a new series, and it was really well attended. Both by racers and fans who came out to watch their friends, family, or just see what the hell was going on. I think the location of the park, right next to the main road going from Frisco to Breckenridge will certainly help in that “viewability” category. But I think the sport as a lot of other things going on that will help it succeed.
- Time slot-Friday night is good.
- Location-already mentioned.
- Parking-lots of it, drive up, and be close with your bike and gear.
- Lack of this kind of thing going on-there is a big section of the mt. bike crowd in the immediate area who have sort of embraced the downhill component of the sport. But they don’t call themselves “racers”. Until now
- The super short, (i.e. opposite) nature of racing. 25 second efforts. It’s rapid fire and always something happening.
- Phenomenal organization, support, and resources running things.
- An awesome clubhouse with great deck, and a beer/burger/chips combo for $7.50!!! That’s ridiculous!
- People love to vacation and weekend trip in Summit County. They’re looking for stuff to do to fit in, to make them ‘mountain’ cool. This could be their shot.
- Kids and adults-there’s something for everything, you race WITH the big boys, but only AGAINST your own age and sex
- Great spectating-This is made for you spectators. Sit there on the close, but not too close sideline, with a cold beverage, in your own comfy chair, and watch lots of high paced, exciting action. Maybe some crashes. Always cool.
